Other ways of birth control other then an condom?

hi! not really sexually active yet, im just curious! i was wondering what are some womanly tools to prevent pregnancy. I told my mom i wanted to get my tubes tied when i turn 21 and untie them when i want a baby. My mother says that getting them tied is for when you already have children is this true? and if it is what are some other extreme ways of preventing pregnancy for a long period of time?
