How to get rid of cat spray on my dog?

my dog went outside earlier and when he came back inside he had an awful scent. at first we thought a skunk had sprayed him but then realized that he didn't have the stench of a skunk. after research i found out cat spray urine and now that i think about it there are plenty of stray cats in the neighborhood and my dog always goes after them. how do i get rid of the smell? i bathed him earlier with just regular dog shampoo hoping it would get the odor away but its still there and its getting unbearable! how in the hell do i get this smell out of his fur? please help me out!
