Electrician said knob and tube in house is "up to code"?

I am about to purchase a house and the owner's electrician noted the knob and tube is "up to code". I have no idea where he/she is getting this information. Is there a place I can find the code for Massachusetts and knob and tube? I asked the electrician to put it in writing....so I will see.
