How to dispose of a dead cat?

There was a stray cat hanging around our house for the past month or so.Today I found it "asleep" on the couch in our garage(the door was open).I then noticed it was dead.We have thin woods behind our house.Should we put it there?It is in a grocery bag but the stench is horrid.
